‘Now you know’: The Spit Game UK x KCL collaboration

‘Now You Know’ is a project in collaboration with Spit Game UK, a group of young Black creatives, to produce films inspired by research occurring at King’s College London. This was an opportunity for the collective to gain experience creating films inspired by research and for academics to explore ways creative storytelling might generate new forms of public engagement and to explore alternative methods of engaging young audiences.

Three short films ‘Ping’, ‘Just a Joke’, and ‘The Thing’s I’ll Do to Be President’ were produced and created by members of the collective, who led the direction, vision, and style of the films. The young creatives were paid for their work and will be able to use these films as part of their artistic portfolio. They received special training from a Director of Photography and an Intimacy Coordinator to help them deal with sensitive topics in their future artistic endeavours. The films were designed primarily with young audiences in mind, ranging from 16- to 25-year-olds. These films are shared on popular social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and at events hosted by Science Gallery London as part of Spit Game UK’s Just Futures Residency, culminating in the ‘My Kind of Black’ exhibition that ran from 17 July-12 October 2024.

‘Now You Know’ is a collaboration between Spit Game UK, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King’s College London and the Science Gallery London.
