The photographic workshop was a collaboration between the Da’aro Youth Project (DYP) and the South London Refugee Association (SLRA). The DYP is a community-led organisation that provides support services to young refugees and asylum seekers from the Horn of Africa, while the SLRA is a frontline organisation offering advice and assistance to refugees and other migrants in South London. Both organisations run regular programming for young people aged 16–25 in their communities.

The workshop centred on the theme of connection and included facilitated dialogues on connection, joy, and hope to create a supportive space for personal reflection by the young persons. Participants were shown how photography can serve as a tool for articulating their experiences through creative expression and were encouraged to use the instant cameras in an exercise that produced an album showcasing the participants’ photographs on these themes.
